The North Beach area (the old Italian section of the City) couldn't offer more, if you are as interested in food and drink as San Franciscans are! Of the 100 best restaurants for 2000 in the Bay Area, (reported by respected food critic Michael Bauer in the SF Chronicle) seven are right in the neighborhood, serving Italian, Mediterranean and French cuisine.  And, another seven are within walking distance--as well as many wonderful restaurants that didn't quite make the list.   (Click for Restaurant list)

For coffee and people-watching at sidewalk cafes, North Beach is unparalleled in its espresso, biscotti and colorful characters. Or, head towards Chinatown (a few blocks away), for a bit of dim sum, and tea, pick-up a few souvenirs and for those who couldn't, read the Joy Luck Club and wander the small alleyways early in the morning as the bustle begins. Chinatown will lead you straight to Union Square, (the heart of what downtown is about - shopping and galleries), which has two rue especially for francophiles, and an entire bar imported direct from Paris.

On another day, head off in the opposite direction for a ferry ride across the bay to beautiful Sausalito or get a tour of Alcatraz.  Within walking distance of CasaRosa you have so many choices of sites including:  Ghiradelli Square, Pier 39, Fisherman's Wharf, the Financial District and many other attractions.  En route, so many of the tiny streets and alleyways lead to unforgettable vistas, dotted with small cottages, lush gardens deep with history and ripe for romance.
